Mentoring Sessions

I have helped guide many students with their university applications and creation of portfolios along with supporting creatives who are looking to develop their work or who feel they need to discuss their ideas in order for them to progress creatively. Please do get in touch if you feel you would benefit from 1:1 sessions.

Here’s what a couple of mentees have said about their mentoring sessions.

Working with Sam as a mentor has given me a new sense of purpose and direction in art textiles. Sam is great at supporting me in my current projects but also, for me to think more about my long-term goals.

During the mentoring sessions, we discuss my work, the concepts I’m exploring and how to move forward. Sam is very insightful and intuitive in finding the essence in a piece of work and she encourages me to communicate this in textiles. She has an in depth understanding of textile techniques which she shares and this also helps me to take the work to another level.

Sam follows every meeting with a detailed summary of the session; it is over and above anything I would expect. However, the write-up has become an invaluable guide to my explorations in the weeks following the sessions.

I highly recommend working with a mentor; for me, being mentored by Sam, is helping me to continue to develop as a textile artist.

Merete Hawkins

Sam’s mentoring has really reinspired me during a very difficult time. The initial questions to answer before mentoring began, were very insightful. Thinking about these helped me to establish a way forward and to recognise which areas of my work I wish to develop further. Sam has tailored objectives in a way that is achievable given my current circumstances. She applies her passion for textile art and wealth of knowledge and experience to whatever project I bring along. Each time I leave excited to tackle my new objectives. After each session, Sam supplies a written summary, often adding additional information of artists and/or techniques to explore.
